One of the most underestimated aspects of a UKG Ready implementation is data conversion. Many teams assume that migrating employee data, payroll history, time punches, and leave balances will be straightforward, but that is rarely the case.
Common challenges encountered during conversions include:
- Inconsistent employee identifiers across systems
- Payroll history formatting issues
- Different Source File Formats - PDFs, Excel, CSVs, XMLs, Text Files
- Time & Labor data that requires normalization
- Historical accrual balances that do not align with configuration
- Data Conversion & Transformation
- Data validation and LookUps before importing into UKG Ready
When these files are used for system imports, even small alignment issues can create significant mapping and validation problems.
For example, a payroll or time history file that appears correct visually in Excel may actually contain column shifts that cause earnings, hours, or deductions to map incorrectly during import.
In many implementations, a large portion of the work becomes normalizing and restructuring the data before it can even be mapped to the target system.
At MCL, we’ve seen this challenge across several UKG Ready projects while supporting partners with HR, Payroll, and Time & Labor (TLM) implementations. In particular, TLM configurations often depend heavily on accurate historical time data, pay codes, accrual balances, and scheduling rules, which makes proper data alignment critical.
Through multiple successful UKG Ready implementations, our team has developed structured validation steps and transformation approaches to ensure the data is correctly aligned before loading into the system.
Over the past few years, our team has supported several UKG partners with data preparation and conversions during implementations. Utilizing reusable transformation templates and validation processes can significantly reduce delays before go-live.
